MBRS Tour and Travels presents the Divine Journey to Shree Jagannathpuri

Shree Jagannathpuri, one of the sacred pilgrimage destinations for Hindus, stands as one of the four great Chardhams on the shores of the city Bhuvneshwar in the Indian state of Odisha.

Dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, this temple was built by the illustrious King Indradyumna. Renowned for its annual Rath Yatra or Chariot Festival, the temple sees three main deities pulled on an intricately adorned chariot shaped like a temple.

This grand and magnificent temple holds profound importance in Hinduism, particularly for those adhering to Vaishnavism. The histories of revered philosophers and saints like Ramanuja, Adi Shankaracharya, and Ramananda are intertwined with the rich tapestry of this pilgrimage site. Legend has it that Ramanuja established the Emar Mutt near the temple, and the Govardhan Mutt, one of the principal seats of Shankaracharya, also graces the same region. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the founder of the Vaishnavism tradition, was drawn to this divine locale and spent a significant part of his life at Jagannath.

Known by various names such as Chariot Festival, Dasavatara, Navadina Yatra, and Gundicha Yatra, Rath Yatra is a highly anticipated festival celebrated annually in the state of Odisha. Puri, an integral pilgrimage site of the Char Dham circuit, is renowned for its high tourism rate throughout the year. However, the months of June and July witness a surge in Puri’s tourism due to the Rath Yatra festivities. According to Hindu belief, Lord Krishna yearns to visit Mathura, his birthplace, leading to an annual procession from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple. During this elaborate ceremony, the wooden idols of the three deities are carried from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple in Puri. If you wish to be part of this grand celebration, explore our exclusive Puri Rath Yatra Special tour package and join the vibrant procession of transporting idols from one sacred place to another.
